Major computer crash late last fall has caused me to fall way behind on website updates and I have lost and/or not receveived many email messages over past months.

Quick update right now, more to come as soon as computer is fully functional.

Please forgive me if you have not received a reply to an email you sent. Until I am fully functional again, please resend any old correspondence or address any new messages to HickoryBerners@gmail.com

News: Bayley turn 8 and hits the show ring. Three specialties in as many days ... it was quite a feat but we pulled it off with great results. Bayley won her 7-9 Veteran bitch both days at the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Southeastern Wisconsin Specialty and took Best Veteran in Sweeps one day. She looks great (like a youngster in my opinion) and still moves like a youngster as well. It is such a joy to show her and to share my life with her and her offspring. I thank my lucky stars every day that Bayley came into and remains in my life.

Marty and Margaux went on our little show adventure as well and did their Momma/Great Grandma and their father proud. Both Marty and Margaux won the Bred By Exhibitor class two of the three days and they both took Reserve Winner's one day in Wisconsin. Both were in tough classes where most of the dogs were older than them. Marty is out of Bayley and Trotter and is 2 months old. Margaux is out of Jura (Seri x Tucker) and Trotter and is 16 months old and this was only her 4 time showing. I'm looking forward to showing these two in the future in what I know will be bright show careers.

In addition to Bayley's 8th Birthday, there was another very special birthday in the Hickory House.
Ch Hickory's Baers Americas Cup aka Alinghi celebrated her 7th birthday. This is a momentous birthday and adds to Alinghi's list of "firsts". Alinghi comes from Hickory's first litter (Aiyana who is alive and well at 9 years old), she is out Einstein, my first show dog and first dog I showed to a Championship. She is my first homebred Champion who I showed to her Championship 100 percent on my own, and now, she is Hickory's first homebred Veteran and she shares this birthday with her entire litter who are all alive and well.

Alinghi is retired from breeding now but she LOVES to show so we will definitely get her in the ring as a Veteran this spring.

Alinghi produced some lovely children who are continuing her legacy. She has one Champion daughter, with multiple Group Placements, Hickory's Vienna Baer. Vienna recently had a lovely litter of 4 pups in February (missing her mother's birthday by only a few days) from a very special European male. Alinghi has three other daughters (x Volmar) that are Championship pointed who I anticipate will finish their Championships in the near future and make Alinghi a top producter.

Puppy News: All of Karma's pups have gone to their new homes. One of Moxie's pups will go to her new home this week and the other will remain at home in the Hickory house.

Deja has been bred and is due in April. If you are interested in a pup from Deja's or a future litter, please email me at info@hickoryberners.com for more information

Duesey will be bred in the Spring

Remi may be bred in the Spring if not, she will be bred in the fall

October Updates:

Karma has been bred. Pups due in December.

October shows:

Karma and Mar-tea both take Reserve Winners on Saturday and Winners on Sunday.

Back east, Zack (aka Hickory's Sounther Scout, a10 month-old Scout x Aussie son) takes Winner's Dog for his first point. Zack is co-owned and lives the Meyers family in Connecticut and is shown by 10 year-old Rachel. The same weekend, Rela (aka Hickory's Relatively Baer v Bunsen, 2 year-old Alinghi x Volmar son) takes Winner's Bitch for her first point. Rela is co-owned by Briana Walton and is was shown by 10 year-old Danielle Meyer. Congrats to the Meyers, Briana and especially Rachel and Danielle. Well done girls and keep up the good work.

Also back east, Diesel (aka Hickory's Clear and Convincing Evidence) took Winner's Dog for another point at a show in Pennsylvania. Diesel is a Karma x Aussie son. He is co-owned by Bill and Jeannie Bussey. He is always owner-handled by Bill and Jeannie and we are looking forward to his continued success in the show ring. Congrats and thanks to Bill and Jeannie for doing such a great job with Diesel.

Updates on the Serendip pups: It's hard to believe that the Seri x Volmar kids are two years old. Remi, Deja, Finn and Trekker had their final OFAs done. Remi has OFA Excellent Hips, Deja and Finn have OFA Good Hips, Trekker has OFA Fair Hips and all four have Clear Elbows, Clear CERF, and OFA Cardiacs. They all began showing this year and are major pointed. Remi and Deja have both their majors and only need a few singles to finish. Finn and Trekker both have one major.

September:
Duesey's pups have all gone to their new homes except one very special little lady aptly named Hickory's Without Further Adieu, aka Addie. Addie cames from a long-awaited and much anticipated litter. So far she is everything we had hoped for. She takes after her mother and we have high hopes for this little lady ... she certainly has "Duesey-tude"

Karma hasn't quite come back into coat yet but she made a show appearance one day in September anyway and it was a successful .... WB/BOW! Finnigan took RWD at the same show. Finn has been shown a handful of times -- he's up to 5 points with one major.

Karma has 6 points and one major. She will be out in the ring more this fall and a very special breeding is in the works for her for late 2009/early 2010.

Mar-tea takes Best Junior dog and Best overall in Puppy Sweeps and Reserve Winner's Dog in regular competition at the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Northern California supported entry show. Bayley took Best Opposite in Veteran Sweeps and Best Opposite in regular competition from the Veterans Class.

We met our good friend Raime of Blue Mountain BMDs at a show in Carson City, Nevada the last weekend in September. Raime had an exceptionally good show, taking 3 of the 4 sets of points. Saturday, Raime's Bred-by dog and bitch, Usher (Bubbles x Volmar) and Eve (Bubbles x Aussie) took Winner's Dog and Bitch. On Sunday, Trekker (Seri x Volmar) took Winner's Dog and an Alinghi x Volmar daughter took Winner's Bitch. Congratulations to Raime for a great weekend for her dogs. A great weekend for the Blue Mountain gang, with boy boys picking up their first major, and also for kids of Hickory stud dogs.

July News:

Aurora's pups are heading to their new homes. Duesey's pups are growing up and doing well. Vienna is due the third week in July.

Show news: Only one show in July for the Hickory gang but it was a good one. Deja took WB for a 4 point major. She is up to 9 points with both majors with limited showing all from the Bred by Exhibitor class.

And from back east ... Ch Hickory's Master of the Sky, aka Orry, has another phenomenal weekend in the show ring with back to back BOB wins and 2 more group placements -- a Group 4 on Saturday and a Group 3 on Sunday!!
Mary, the 10 year old junior and 22 month old Orry, sure make a great team.
Check back for more news on these two rising stars ... they've only just begun!

June News:

What a month it was -- less than 30 days --- three show weekends -- yielded two new Champions, several wins including 8 majors, 5 Best of Breed wins, and 2 Working Group placements for Hickory Kids ... all by Volmar children!. We sure miss Volmar around here but we know he is enjoying life with his family in Austria and we feel very fortunate to have some of his kids here in the US to carry on his legacy.

Another sucessful weekend in the show ring. First, the most exciting news -- Vienna Baer (Alinghi x Volmar) wins her second major and finishes her Championship.

Champion Hickory's Vienna Baer is co-owned and lives with Joelle and Richie Diamond outside Memphis, TN. Showing Vienna to her Championship was a group effort between myself, Joelle, Mary (the awesome 10 year old junior handler) even Elaine Lawrence who put a couple of Miss Vienna's points on her when she was a puppy, but most of the credit goes to Joelle who did the majority of Vienna's showing as well as nearly all of the behind the scenes work. Richie gets credit and appreciation for putting up with it all and for tolerating those occasions when his princess was away from home.

Vienna joins her brother Orry as Diamond dog Champion #2. Both Orry and Vienna are Volmar kids --- Vienna is Volmar's third Champion kid, Alinghi's first champion kid, Einstein's and Aiyana's first Champion Grandkid and Hickory's 10th homebred Champion.

Vienna has been bred to Aussie and all signs say she is pregnant. She is due at the end of July. Vienna has OFA Excellent Hips, Clear Elbows and current CERF. Aussie (Ch Hickory's Southern Lights out of Ch Seri x Ch Hickory's All Tuckered Out, CD, RN) has OFA Good Hips, clear elbows, OFA Cardiac certification, and current CERF.

We are super excited about this litter as it will be a mix of every dog owned by Hickory that has been used in our breeding program .

Deja, Karma and Finn head to NorCal show with Amy. Deja wins the BBE class and Karma, being shown by Ingrid, an awesome junior handler from Idaho, took 1st in the open class. Karma and Ingrid gave Deja and Amy a run for their money in the Winner's Bitch competition but in the end Deja took WB and BOB for her first major and Karma took RWB.

Finnigan had a respectable showing and took RWD despite having his attention focussed on his sister in blooming season.

Duesey and Aurora's pups are thriving. Updated photos coming soon.
In the show ring, Finn hits the all-breed show ring for the first time since he was a young puppy.

In his debut in the ring as a big boy, he took WD and BOW at a local show,
while his sis Remi took WB/BOS for 2 points each.

We then hit the road for a very successful show weekend. Remi took WB/BOW/BOB both days for two more 3 point majors. She's up to 11 points with 3 majors. Finn took WD/BOS on Saturday for his first major and RWD on Sunday.

April and May News:

Introducing -- Ch Hickory's Master of the Sky
One weekend, 3 Majors, 2 Group Placements, and a new Hickory CHAMPION:
Hickory's Master of the Sky aka Orry, too WD/BOW/BOB for his first major on Saturday, May 30th. He went on to take a Working Group 3 placment.

It is hard to imagine beating a day like that, but the Diamond dogs did just that on Sunday. Orry took WD for his second major and finished his Championship while his big half sister, Hickory's Vienna Baer aka Vienna, took WB/BOW/BOB for her first major. Trying not to be outdone by her little brother, Vienna struts her stuff to take a Working Group 4 placement.

Orry and Vienna live with and are co-owned with our dearest friends, Joelle and Richie Diamond. Joelle handled Orry for all of his points, including both of his majors. Mary, a very accomplished 10 year old junior helped along the way and showed Orry (and Vienna) for his Group placement. I even got to show him a couple of times in the Group ring along the way.

Orry is 21 months old and out of Aurora and Volmar. He is Hickory's 9th Champion -- Aurora's 1st Champion kid, Volmar's 2nd Champion kid, Tucker's 1st Champion grandkid, Seri's 2nd Champion grandkid and Bayley's 1st Champion great-grandkid.

Vienna is out Alinghi and Volmar. She is 2.5 and only needs her last major to finish. She was recently bred to Aussie and we are super excited about her upcoming pups because the combination will be a mix of all of Hickory's past and present dogs.

Congratulations and much gratitude goes out to Joelle and Richie for all they've done with their Hickory's kids and for being the greatest friends!

Duesey Does It Again -- 7 pups -- 3 males and 4 females! Pics coming soon.

Aurora free whelps a lovely litter of 6 -- 3 males and 3 females.
Click her to see photos of Aurora's Legends of Rock

News from Nationals: We were very busy but we had a good time
at Nationals in Portland. We took a couple of placements, make a lot of "cuts" and had a very enjoyable week with our dogs and friends. Pics coming soon.

Nationals Results:

Hickory's All Steamed Up aka Mar-tea (10 month old Bay x Trotter son) took 2nd in his Sweeps Class and 1st in his regular class.

Jura's Premier Vintage Margaux v Hickory (6 month old Jura x Trotter daughter) made her show debut and made the first cut in her very large Sweeps class. Her mother Ch. Hickory's Jura Claire-de-Lune made it to the final cut in Best of Breed

The Seri x Volmar foursome were all there and had a respectable showing:
Hickory's Reminiscent of Serendip aka Remi, made the first cut in a large and tough Open Bitch Class with me handling her.
Hickory's Reflection of Serendip, aka Deja, made it to the final cut in Open bitch with our friend Andrea Dunkle showing her beautifully.
Hickory's Prince of Serendip, returned to the ring for the first time since he was a young puppy and made the cut in the Bred By Exhibitor Dog class.
Hickory's Tale of Serendip looked great for his show debut with his co-owner Raime Campbell handling him.
Hickory's Southern Scout aka Zack (Aussie x Scout son) was too young for Sweeps so he made his show debut in the 6-9 month puppy class. I started him off in the ring, but quickly realized that he did better with his 9 year old human sister, Rachel Meyers, showing him. Rachel and Zack did fabulous, especially considering it was both of their first show ever!
Rachel showed Aussie (Ch Hickory's Southern Lights a Seri x Tucker son), for her debut in junior showmanship. Rachel had never shown Aussie before and it was only her second time ever in the ring, but you would have never guessed that watching them. They both did an amazing job and Rachel won her Novice Junior class!

March Breeding Updates:

Aurora has been bred to "Usher".

Pups are due mid-May. More info to follow.

Duesey was bred in late March. Details to follow.

February and March Updates:

Bayley turned 7 in early February! She may be a Veteran but she's still the biggest puppy in the Hickory House.

Willie aka Ch Hickory's Willie Rolls In (Bayley x Ivanhoe) takes Winner's Dog and Best of Winners at the Connecticut River Working Group show to finish his Championship. Willie is the 4th Champion from Bayley's litter with Ivan. Willie's accomplishment earns Bayley the distinction of being a Top Producer. Congrats and much gratitude go out to Willie and his great owner, Joan Corr.

Karma takes WB at two shows in late March. She has only been shown a handful of times but is up to 5 points with one major.

Vienna's final orthopedics come back --- OFA Excellent Hips and Normal Elbows!

January Show results:

Our yearly adventure at the Golden Gate Kennel Club show goes well for the Hickory Berner Bunch. Joelle and Vienna came out from back east for the show and Vienna places both days in a large and tough Open bitch class. Her half brother Cooper (Alinghi x Tucker) places in an equally large and tough Open Dog class. Remi places in a large and very competitive Bred By Bitch class on Saturday and her littermate Deja won the class on Sunday. Marty and McKenzie make their second show appearance and both win their 6-9 puppy dog classes and the Brood Bitch class goes to Bayley with Marty and McKenzie shows as her get. Marty took Best Puppy and a Working Group Puppy Group 2 placement. Most of all, everyone showed well and we had a great time, both in and out of the ring.

Another star arrived in the Diamond house in December and 6 month old Mazzy (Hickory's Twinkling Little Star out of Bayley x Trotter) mades her show debut and and took back to back Reserve Winner's Bitch distinctions in January in Mississippi. Mazzy lives with our dear friends Joelle and Richie Diamond. Her nephew Orry (Hickory's Master of the Sky out of Aurora x Volmar) and best buddy Vienna (Hickory's Vienna Baer out of Alinghi x Volmar) are showing little miss Mazzy Moon the ropes of the house and the show ring. Vienna and Orry are minored out so they will be out chasing majors this winter and I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before the newest Diamond dog is outshining the rest of the local competition in the show ring.

Emmett (Ch Hickory's Breaking the Ice out of Seri x Baran) begins the year with another Best of Breed at a Working Group Specialty under a breeder judge. Emmett is only shown a few times per year at Specialties but he has a very impressive list of accomplishments including 3 BOBs at Working Group Specialties, as well as 1 Best Opposite Sex, 2 Awards of Merit and 3 Winner's Dogs wins at Regional Specialities. Emmett is always owner handled with class! Much gratitude to Sue Wellenstein for all she's done with Emmett. They are a great team. Keep up the good work!

2009 Breeding plans:

Duesey and Aurora will be bred late this winter/early in the spring.

Vienna will likely be bred in the late spring or early summer.

and a very special breeding is in the works for Karma for sometime in 2009.

I am still working on the formidable task of finding stud dogs to compliment each girl who's pedigree can meet my standards for health and longevity.

2008 Updates

December 2008: The Bayley x Trotter nursery rhyme kids hit the show ring. Hickory's Dickory Doc (Doc), Hickory's All Steamed Up (Mar-tea aka Marty) and Hickory's Quite Contrary (McKenzie) made their show debut at the end of December. Considering it was their first time both at show and in the ring, they did very well. Marty took RWD over several much older and experienced dogs.

Karma (Bayley x Volmar) takes Winner's bitch for her first points. Orry takes back to back Winner's Dogs and Best of Breed wins at the same show to "minor" our. Karma will be out in the show ring in the winter and fall and Orry and Vienna will be looking for majors back east.

Announcing Jura's Premier Vintage ... with a little help from
Ch Hickory's Jura Claire de Lune & Am/Can Ch Doremis Globetrotter von Ask,
my dear friends Steve and Kim McIntyre welcomed their first litter of pups into their home in late October. Other than their Berner girl Jura, wine is Steve and Kim's passion
so the theme for the litter was a given (check out McIntyre Vineyards) and
click here for more info and to see photos of Jura's Premier Vintage

New Champion!!!
Aussie, aka Ch Hickory's Southern Lights CGC finished his Championship in style taking Winner's Dog at the Sierra West BMD Regional Specialty. He was shown for all his points in the Bred By Exhibitor Class which qualifies us for Eukanuba. Aussie is out of Ch Seri x Ch Hickory's All Tuckered Out CD RN. He has OFA Good Hips, Clear Elbows, Clear CERF and OFA Cardiac. He is Seri's third Champion kid, Tucker's second, and Bayley's second Ch Grandkid. Aussie lives back east and is co-owned by Briana Walton of Bunsen BMDs. Much appreciation goes out to Briana for sending Aussie back to me so I could show him to his Championship.

Breeding Updates: Jura (Ch Hickory's Jura Claire de Lune out of Ch Seri x Ch Hickory's All Tuckered Out, CD, RN) has been bred and is confirmed pregnant. Pups are due in around October 20th.

September 2008 Show Updates: Remi takes Best Junior Dog/Best in Sweeps and Reserve Winner's Bitch at the BMD Club of Northern California Supported Entry show. Aussie took Reserve Winner's Dog.

Remi takes back to back RWB in Petaluma, CA and then at our NorCal Club's supported entry show in San Rafael, she takes Best Junior Dog in Sweeps and Best in Sweepstakes. Both her and Aussie take Reserve Winners the following day .... oh so close .... Remi is growing up nicely and is doing well enough in the show ring but she doesn't seem to feel the need to strut her stuff in the show ring just yet. Hopefully in time some of her brother Aussie's full of himself show attitude will wear off on her.

Moxie (Scout x Volmar) took BOB (over Remi) at the SFD B Match and a Working Group 3 placement..

August 2008 Show Updates: Ch Hickory's Breaking the Ice, better known as Emmett, takes BOS at the Minnesota Regional Specialty show. This adds to Emmett's already impressive list of wins and awards at Specialty shows which include taking WD/BOW three times to finish his Championship, two Awards of Merit and now a BOS. Emmett has taken BOB at the Minnesota Working Dog Specialty the past two years. Emmett is a Seri x Baran son, and he is always owner-handled by our dear friend Sue Wellenstein. Congrats Em and Sue. As always, you are a class act and you are both awesome!

A successful weekend for Hickory's resident SerBaer babies -- Aussie (Seri x Tucker) takes WD/BOW and Deja (Seri x Volmar) takes WB/BOS, both for 2 points. This was Deja's first show win and it "minored" Aussie out. Aussie only needs his last major to finish his Championship. Later the same weekend, in the only day she is entered, Remi takes WB. This is her first show win and it was a 3 point major!! These very special kids are growing up and continuing their Mother's legacy all being shown in the Bred-By Exhibitor Class. Aussie is co-owned by and lives with our great friend Briana Walton of Bunsen Bernese Mountain Dogs who was kind enough to let Aussie come visit earlier this year so I could show him to his Championship out of the BBE class -- we are coming down the home stretch. Aussie is the most wonderful dog in temperament and it's a pleasure having him around. He's sired two lovely litters during his time back home in California. We are going to hate to see him go, but we know his family back east misses him dearly.

Back east with our good friends Joelle and Richie Diamond, Orry (Aurora x Volmar) celebrates his first birthday weekend by taking WD/BOW and Vienna (Alinghi x Volmar) takes WB/BOS. Vienna only needs her majors to finish her Championship and Orry has 5 points. Both Orry and Vienna are always owner handled to perfection by Joelle:-)

Back in New Jersey, Hickory's Star Struck (aka Kendall an Aurora x Volmar daughter), is quickly amounting her point tally. She just turned a year old and already has several wins to her name. Kendall is owned by our friend Sue Adams.

Tucker finishes his CD title at the Canfield, Ohio Regional Specialty Circuit taking the added distinction of High Berner in trial at the Specialty Show! Ch Hickory's All Tuckered Out RN, CD is far from Tuckered out and I do not think we've seen the last of the boy in performance events. Tucker was expertly trained and shown by Vilma Briggs. Vilma owns a Tucker son "Buzz" (x Elaine's girl "Nula"). Buzz is not even a year old and is already pointed in the conformation ring and has his Rally Novice title. Our deepest gratitude goes out to Elaine and Vilma for their work with Tucker.

August 2008 Pup-dates: Alinghi x Aussie pups arrive. Contact us if you are intersted in a pup from this special breeding of two of Hickory's own home bred dogs.

and ... introducing "Hickory's Duesey Does It" ... we are very excited about this most special lovely little lady!

June 2008: Oh the Bay .... (those of you that personally know Bay, know exactly what that means:-)
Five perfect pups ... pics and more information coming soon. All pups are spoken for.

26 May 2008: Karma x Aussie pups arrive! Karma free whelps a lovely and very consistent litter. Puppy photos coming soon. Contact us if you are interested in a pup from this breeding representing three generations of Hickory kids.

BMDCNC Regional Specialty Results: The Hickory Berner Bunch weathered the horrible heat and had a successful weekend. Aussie took 1st in the Bred By Exhibitor Dog class a the Specialty and both days at the Supported Entry shows that followed. Deja made her show debut and quickly figured it out. Both her and her sister Remi take class placements in the 12-18 month bitch classes and Deja took a 1st place placement on Saturday in the 12-18 bitch class. Mojo won his 6-9 puppy dog class each day. Cooper placed in his class and is growing up and beginning to show very well.

Oops .. she did it again .... The biggest news of the weekend was that Bayley made a rare show appearance and took the only Award of Merit given out at the Specialty. Bayley is 6 years old and this is her second Award of Merit at a Specialty. Her first AOM was at Nationals in 2004 when she was pregnant with Tucker and Duesey's litter. Ironically, Bayley was also pregnant for this showing as her April breeding was successful. Pics of Princess Bay and the rest of the Hickory Kids at the Regional coming soon.

May 2008 Show Results:
Placerville, California: Aussie takes BOW on Saturday and Sunday for a total of 3 more points. He now only needs his second major and a few singles to finish. Deja took 1st in the Bred by Exhibitor Class on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday. In the puppy match that followed the show, Deja took BOB in the adult class and a Working Group 1 placement. Deja is 13 months old and this was only her second weekend showing. She has lovely structure, great bone and substance, tons of coat and moves like a dream.

Woodland, California: Aussie takes WD for another point. Scout takes RWB two days in a row. Mojo's sister Moxie makes her show debut.

Puppy News: Karma x Aussie pups arriving in May. Bayley is pregnant and due in Mid-June.

April 2008 Show Results: Aussie takes back to back WD for another two points. At the same shows, Mojo (Hickory's Tribute to Tibor: Seri x Volmar son) takes RWD out of the 6-9 puppy class. Scout takes RWB the first day and WB the second day.

March 2008 Show Results: In his second weekend show, at the age of 6.5 months, Orry (Aurora x Volmar) takes Winner's Dog and Best of Winners for his first point. Congrats to Joelle and Orry for their accomplishment. It looks like Hickory's Master of the Sky will be a shining star for his owners, Joelle and Richie and the Hickory Berner Bunch. Orry is a third generation Hickory breeding ... he's an Aurora son (x Volmar), a Tucker and Seri Grandson, and a Bayley Great-Grandson..

Tucker gets his Rally Novice Obedience title and the first leg towards his Companion Dog obedience title. Ch Hickory's All Tuckered Out wasn't too tuckered out to perform in March. He got the first leg towards his CD, only missing high in trial by an ear scratch and receiving Rally Novice title in only a few shows. Congrats and thanks to Elaine and Vilma for bringing out the best in Tucker!

2008 Wisconsin Regional Specialty Results: Aussie takes 1st in the Bred by Exhibitor Class on Friday and 2nd on Saturday. Scout takes 3rd in Bred by Exhibitor Bitch on Friday. In his show debut, Orry (Aurora x Volmar son) takes first in 6-9 month puppy Sweeps on Friday. Vienna takes 4th in her Sweeps and Breed Classes both days. And lastly, Emmett (Ch Hickory's Breaking the Ice ... a Seri x Baran son), takes an Award of Merit. This is the third straight year that Emmett has had a great achievement a this show. He took Winner's Dog both days in 2006, Winner's Dog and an Award of Merit one day in 2007. A huge congrats to Emmett and Sue for their great accomplishment! Thank you Sue for all you've done with Em. You make a great team and have always been nothing but a class act! It was lovely show with some very nice dogs, great people and a good all around showing
for the Hickory Berner Bunch!

January 2008 Show Updates: In his West Coast show debut, Aussie takes WD/BOW for a 4 point major out of the Bred By Exhibitor class at the Sierra West BMD Club Supported Entry at the Golden Gate Kennel Club show. Aussie went on to take a BBE Group 1 placement. Aussie is a Tucker X Seri son. He is 28 months old, OFA Good Hips, Clear Elbows, Current CERF and OFA Cardio clear. Watch for more show results this winter and spring as Aussie begins what I'm sure will be a bright show career.

Vienna Baer takes WB/BOW/BOB in back to back shows! In the B Match following the show, both Vienna and Orry (5 month old Volmar x Aurora son, in his puppy match debut), take BOB and Group Placements. Congrats to Joelle, Vienna and Orry on a great job!

Winter 2008 Puppy News: Please contact us for more information -- neither breeding was successful. We will likely try again in the summer or next fall.

Alinghi was bred to Aussie. If successful, pups are due in March.

Duesey was bred to Trotter. If successful, pups are due in late February.

2007 Updates

December Show results: Hickory's Vienna Baer takes WB/BOS for another two points being shown back east.

December OFA results: Aussie (Seri x Tucker) receives OFA final ratings of Good Hips and Normal elbows at 26 months of age. Aussie is also OFA Cardiac Certified and current on his CERF. He will be hitting the New England show circuit this winter. Cooper (Alinghi x Tucker) prelims with OFA Good Hips and Normal elbows at 20 months of age.

16 November 2007: The home page was updated with a photo of original 3 Hickory Kids and in Memory of Einstein Baer. Yesterday we had to help a dear friend leave this life and cross the Rainbow Bridge where Curie and Seri were waiting for him. I take comfort in knowing that the original 3 Hickory Kids have been reunited and that Einstein is currently being bossed around by Curie and Seri is pestering him like all good little sisters do. I'm sure he is loving every minute of it!

Today is a new day in the Hickory House and marks the start of a new era of sorts. Our first three berners, Curie Marie, Einstein Baer and Seri have left us but they will always remain in our hearts and never be forgotten. Einstein and Seri's legacies will live on through their children and grandchildren. Curie never had children but her spirit and memory will live on and none of them can or ever will be forgotten.

These wonderful creatures add so much to our lives. They give us all they have to give and they give their love freely, wholeheartedly with no strings attached. They do not judge, gossip, or speak badly of anyone. Many people could learn a lot from their dogs and the world would be a better place if people lived by the examples set by our canine companions.

November OFA results: Aurora's final xrays come back with Good rated hips and Normal elbows. Karma and her littermate Angus (Bayley x Volmar) prelim with Good hips and Normal elbows and Vienna (Alinghi x Volmar) also prelims with Good hips and Normal elbows.

19 October OFA results: Cooper's (Hickory's Little Deuce Coupe) final OFA's come in: Cooper previously xrayed with OFA Excellent Hips but his vet did not do his elbows so they were xrayed this fall and they came back as Normal/Unaffected. Cooper is the last of the dogs from the Bayley x Ivan litter to be xrayed. All dogs this litter came back with Excellent or Good Hips and all came back with Normal/Unaffected Elbows with the exception of one dog that had Prelim normal/unaffected elbows but per the OFA website, appears not to have final elbow clearances. Regardless, the results for this litter with 100 percent being xrayed have been well above the breed average and an exceptionally strong litter for orthopedics. Ch Hickory's All Tuckered Out (Tucker) seems to passing this on to his offspring as his daughter, Jura (Ch Hickory's Jura Claire de Lune), out of Ch Seri, just finalled with OFA EXCELLENT Hips and Normal/Unaffected Elbows. Aurora (Hickory's Northern Lights) prelimmed at 18 months of age with Excellent Hips and Normal/Unaffected Elbows. Check full litter results on our litter results page.

15 October 2007 Updates: Links to 8 week old photos of Aurora and 7.5 week old Alinghi puppies. All puppies have homes. Ch Hickory's She's a Duesey will be bred later this fall/winter to a European male, TBA. Duesey is a Bayley x Ivan daughter and has OFA Good Hips, Unaffected Elbows, OFA Thyroid and Cardiac, and recent clear CERF clearances. She is 3.5 years old and this will be her first litter. Please contact us if you are interested in receiving more information about this breeding.

September 2007: New Champion!!!!!!!!!!! Jura takes back to back WB/BOW wins for her last two points to finish her Championship.

Ch Hickory's Jura Claire de Lune is out of Ch Hickory's All Tuckered Out x Ch Seri.

Jura is Hickory's 6th homebred Champion, Seri's 2nd Champion kid & Tucker's 1st Champion kid.  She is Hickory's 1st second generation homebred Champion.

Handling duties and wins, including majors were, split about evenly between Jura's owner, Kim McIntyre (a fabulous novice hander) and a professional handler. Jura took BOW in every win she had.

Jura is 23 months old with OFA Prelim Good hips, Clear elbows, OFA Cardiac and Thyroid clear and recent Clear CERF.

She's a lovely representation of both her parents in type with her mother's sweet and silly disposition. I am very proud of Jura's accomplishment and very grateful to her wonderful owners, Kim and Steve McIntyre, for all they have done with her.

August 2007: Jura takes WB/BOW for her second major against some tough competition in a big open bitch class with her Mom Kim showing her. Jura only needs 2 more points to finish her Championship. Way to go Jura and Kim! Jura is a Seri x Tucker daughter.

Puppy news: The girls are getting big and fat. Pups are due in 2-3 weeks!

July 2007: Puppy news: Aurora and Alinghi were both bred to Volmar. Pups are due in mid-August. Aurora is a Seri x Tucker daughter with Excellent rated hips, clear elbows, clear CERF, OFA cardiac clear, and AKC DNA. She is AKC Championship pointed.

Alinghi is from Hickory's first litter and because our first home bred Champion at 18 months of age. She is an Aiyana x Einstein daughter with Fair Hips, PennHip ~70th percentile, Clear Elbows, Clear CERF, OFA cardiac clear, and AKC DNA. Her entire litter was xrayed and CERFed and everyone cleared Hips, Elbows, and CERF eye exams. This breeding is a repeat of the breeding that produced Vienna late last summer. Volmar has A/A Hips and Clear Elbows (Austrian ratings), OFA Cardiac, Clear CERF and vWD (pending).

Vienna takes WB two days for two more points with a junior handler showing her. It seems that it doesn't matter who is at the end of the leash, this little lady shines no matter what. Vienna is currently in the midwest teaching a friend how to show..

June 2007: Another New Champion!!!! Duesey finished her Championship in early June. Duesey is Hickory's fifth home bred Champion and Bayley's third Champion kid ... all three of Bay's Champ kids having come from the same litter. Much appreciation goes out to Elaine Gunn for helping us out and taking Duesey and finishing her Championship. At the same show Duesey finished, Vienna (Alinghi x Volmar daughter) took Reserve Winner's Bitch.

May 2007: New Champion!!!! Tucker finished his Championship in mid-May with our good friend Elaine showing him. Tucker is now officially Ch Hickory's All Tuckered Out but he's not quite All Tuckered Out just yet. While he will reside full time on Elaine's couch in Mississippi, he will make an occasional appearance in the ring as a special and begin working on his Obedience and other titles. With Elaine's help, we know this boy will have letters on both sides of his name ... they make a great team! Tucker's sister Duesey, took Winner's Bitch the day before he finished and is almost finished with her Championship herself, only needing two more points to join the ranks of her brother. She took Reserve Winner's Bitch the day Tucker finished.

Vienna takes a 3rd Place placement in Sweepstakes at Nationals in Kentucky with our friend Ben showing her.

Jura (Hickory's Jura Claire de Lune out of Seri x Tucker) takes WB/BOW two consequative days for 3 more points. Jura only needs one major and a few singles to finish her Championship. She's a lovely girl very much in the style of her mother.

Orthopedic Results updates : Tucker's final OFA's are in. He has Good rated Hips and Clear Elbows. His daughter, Aurora (out of Seri) was rated with prelim Excellent Hips and Clear Elbows at 18 months of age. That brings the tally for the Seri x Tucker litter to 5 of the 8 having been prelimmed and submitted to OFA, with Hips rating: 1 Excellent, 3 Goods, and 1 unilateral Borderline, with all 5 dogs having Clear Elbows. 2 girls from this litter are Championship pointed.

April 2007 Show News: Hickory's Vienna Baer (Alinghi x Volmar) makes her show debut and takes Winner's Bitch/Best of Winner's/Best Opposite/Best Puppy and a Puppy Group 3 Placement! Not a bad start to her show career! We are quite fond of this pretty little lady and think she a bright future in the show ring.
